“Comparison - A Short Story”

"Hey Kid, what are you doing alone here on the roof?" asked the man.
"Oh I am just looking at the stars. They are so pretty. The whole sky looks so amazing because of them" replied, the excited kid.
"Wow! They are. So which one is your favorite star?" enquired the man.
"Which one? I like them all. They all together make the sky beautiful" replied the kid.
"No. You got to have any one favorite. How about the biggest one there? Or that one, the brightest. Aren’t they special?" asked the man.
"I don’t know. I thought they all were beautiful" replied the kid with a sad face.
He could never look at the sky same way, again. He started comparing the stars, and this ruined his joy of looking at a sky full of thousands of beautiful stars.
Our life is no different than that sky full of stars. But the moment, some elder teach us comparison, it takes away all the joy of life.
We start comparing people on basis of success, or physical beauty, or financial fortune, or color, or the talent they possess, or the language they speak. And then, not all stars remain special to us, neither the sky is as perfect as it was, before the comparison.
