Last evening, while scrolling through my phone on the couch, I read a statement that caught my attention. According to UNFPA's 2023 India Ageing Report, the elderly population is likely to surpass the population of children in the country by 2046. Initially, my mind raced with thoughts about what could be done to provide security to the elderly population and address the upcoming challenges due to demographic changes. However, it soon dawned on me that by 2046, I will be nearing senior citizenship myself! This realization was a wake-up call.

Technological advancements and population growth are responsible for various issues, including unemployment, pollution, climate change, diseases, mental pressure, and natural calamities. Ageing population, Wars, migration and urbanization will add more flavour to it.

Here are the 5 steps that we should take to protect our future

  1. Upskill and reskill

Upskill and reskill helps you to stay relevant in this changing job market. It will also improve your job security. In current scenario cyber security, cloud computing, content creation, artificial intelligence and machine learning are some of the profitable skills. you can enroll in courses or certification programs to learn certain skills.

2. Diversify your investment

Diversifying your investments will increase potential returns, reduce risk and dependency on a single investment. Spread investments across asset classes like stocks, bond, real estate, commodities and cash. You can consult with a financial advisor or research on your own for the better management of your money.

3. Priorities health

Prioritizing health is crucial in today’s world, especially with the increasing threats of climate change and pollution. By focusing on health, you’ll improve your quality of life, boost productivity, and enhance mental wellbeing. Good health also builds resilience, helping you bounce back from challenges and adapt to change.

To achieve optimal health, remember to:

- Fuel your body with a balanced diet
- Stay hydrated
- Engage in regular exercise
- Get 7-9 hours of sleep
- Practice stress-reducing techniques like yoga, meditation, and Pranayam

Investing in your health is investing in your future. Keep prioritizing your wellbeing and inspiring others to do the same!

4. Develop a flexible career plan

A flexible career plan embraces change and uncertainty, focusing on transferable skills, continuous learning, and growth to prepare you for future challenges in the rapidly changing job market. To create a flexible career plan:

- Identify your skills and interests.
- Establish long-term goals and. short-term objectives.
-Explore industries, job roles, and required skills.
-Create a Learning Plan to acquire new skills and knowledge.
-Regularly assess your progress and adjust your plan as needed.

By following these steps, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the dynamic job market and achieve your career aspirations.

5. Stay adaptable and resilient

Staying adaptable and resilient requires a combination of mindset, skills and practice.
View change as an opportunity for growth and learning. Stay curious, learn from failure and develop problem solving skills. Build ability to navigate complex challenges. Be open to adjusting plans and approaches as needed.
