This is a really great point on any media level, producer to consumer. It seems like there’s a huge cultural disconnect in terms of responsibility; how many people even run a simple Snopes-type search when something sounds too good/bad to be true? News producers are first and foremost in the business of sustaining themselves, and that seems to be a particularly troublesome thought for some people to wrap their heads around. Really well-expressed article, though.
