We are living in London for 3 years now and I wanted to share my top reasons why I love this city and I couldn’t live anywhere else (for now)
Parks everywhere!
Coming from Paris where you have no real park (if you consider the Luco, where you can’t walk on the grass as a park, it’s good for you). From Hamstead Heath to Hyde Park or Richmond Park, there are so many. Each of them are different and can offer different types of activities… You can watch the stags in Richmond, enjoy festivals in Victoria Park or drink a Pimm’s under the trees in Hamstead. Whatever you want to do, you’ll find the best place.
The People
Yes, we all know that Londoners aren’t exactly known for their heart warming approach to humanity, but there are all manner of people walking the streets of London. From Camden to Westminster, Richmond to Clapham; you can find quirky, alternative, attractive and interesting people wherever you turn. Each part of the city has its own characteristic and specialities, you can travel across the World while remaining in London!
Effective transports
It’s hard to have an effective transport system in such a big city but London did it and very well! The bus are particularly great as they are available days and nights, for many of them, and are circulating fast (sometimes too fast). The tube is good outside of the peak hours, where you’re literally smashed on the doors, risking a panic attack between stations. London has also a great bike renting system (Borris bikes) and it’s very nice to enjoy a ride at night when summer comes.
With 6 airports and many train stations, you are also connected to the World (and 2 hours from the heart of Paris!).
Foods (no kidding)
Coming from France, you could think that I’m kidding, but it’s true : you can find some terrific foods here! We have a lot of local markets, organic shops, bakeries, etc. If you like good foods, you’ll find it here. Same for the restaurants, you can find pretty much all the types of dishes that you like, it’s amazing! And if you don’t know what to chose, just use Google Maps or Foursquare and you’ll find reviews about the restaurants around you.
Always busy
In London, you’ll always find something to do. Festivals, concerts, garden parties, pubs, etc. It’s simply impossible to be bored! There are things to do days and nights, whatever the weather is.
I love London and we really enjoy the city as a family. For now, there is no city that could compete with London in term of facilities and fun, so we are planning to stay as long as possible here.
You can find my list of Pubs and Bar and for Family brunch. If you’re coming for a week-end with kids and have no idea what to do, here is my Best spots for kids and families.
Enjoy!
