I’m 63. all thru junior and high school, it was almost all mens’ work we studied. and I’d say that for the next 20 years I read the ‘best’ works of the day, and they were impressive — again, just about all by guys. guys wrote about them — guys reviewed them. guys published them.

finally, somehow, I clued in that women were and had been writing impressive things too, though they were nowhere near as easy to find and hear about. and I found a home.

since then, I’ve read mainly women. incredible women writers, and there are plenty if you take the trouble to find them. I figure I have a lot to catch up on. and if I never read another Hemingway piece, I’m fine with that…
