Often, the strange behavior of the enabler is indicative of addiction in the other.

This is particularly true when alcoholism is present.

The spouse who rages at the other, stemming from prolonged frustration, while the drunk appears to be merely enjoying a beer…..

The spouse who leaves young children alone in their home, day or night, to find the other in the bar.

Al-Anon literature provides numerous clear and verifiable examples of the lengths and depths many people have gone to fight against this “ cunning, powerful, and baffling” disease.

When a relationship has pegged the dysfunction meter, look for substance abuse.

This is probably the cause of poor communication skills and the appearance of narcissist tendencies.

Thanks for an interesting piece.
