John, an interesting idea. Walmart is already Godzilla, and with this approach, the beast would grow an appropriately long tail.

I’ve been studying the distribution channels for building materials and indoor fit & finishes, a category widely showcased on Pinterest and Instagram. Today, end clients can find and buy materials directly when they used to be sold only “to the trade.” That has created a business model problem for interior designers. It’s also created a discovery problem for small, high-end or bespoke manufacturers.

Oddly, a high-end, online-only Walmart might be just the partner to fulfill distribution. Perhaps a re-brand might be in order to execute on the plan.
