You are right on! It’s a hidden discrepancy in higher ed. I taught English and Study Skills at two community colleges in Denver, CO. It was part-time work, so I knew I would get no benefits and the pay would be minimal. After five years, I moved back into full-time public school education, just so I could get a decent paycheck and medical coverage.
