Is Profanity The Key to Getting Kudos on Medium?

It’s not just titles that contain the profanity. Otherwise interesting articles are laced with it, making me want to quit reading. I predate the Baby Boomer Generation, and we were taught that the use of profanity indicates a poor vocabulary. I can understand why it’s used in fiction to develop characters, but can’t see how it adds anything of value to nonfiction.

It’s almost as though the authors that constantly toss the “F” word around are trying to prove something or just get a reaction. I expect a child who’s just overheard the word testing to see what reaction it brings from adults or whether it impresses other children, but I fail to see why anyone needs to use it in a blog post.
