I’ve had multiple people tell me that they have wasted their life- by not going to college, not learning a valuable skill, or not doing things they wanted to by a certain age. There are a lot of people that feel this way, but it is not true in the slightest.

Sometimes people define their value by their wealth or net worth. In a capitalistic society, thinking or feeling that way is easy. Once fallen into that state of mind, it is difficult to escape. It becomes a personal hell.

We need to backtrack to facts. And yes, I mean the facts. No matter how young or old you are, you have had many successes in your life! You may not see it now, but I hope I shed some light on how you feel about yourself and your life.

You are living and breathing! You are experiencing life in this very moment and every moment. Life itself is a valuable experience. We meet many people who influence, teach, and make us happy. We are continuously learning and growing as people. You may not know it, but you learn something new every day. Whether it be subconsciously, you are consistently learning and growing. And as long as you are alive, you will continuously be doing so. You have also influenced someone else’s life, whether big or small- someone appreciates what you have done for them.

We all have things that bring us joy. Our pets, our families, our hobbies, or even the birds outside- we all have something in life we enjoy that make us happy. Having that joy in life means you have not wasted anything. We are here to experience the world around us and find happiness while being here. Your life may not be perfect, but you can find peace and calm in what you enjoy. Slow down and appreciate those very things.

Everyone has something they are good at. We all have something we are remarkably talented in, and even if we don’t pursue it or monetize it, it doesn’t take away from the fact that you are good at something. Not everyone can say they play guitar, make art, communicate exceptionally well, or fix cars. There are things that some people may understand and do very well that others will never entirely understand. Appreciate yourself for being so fabulous.

Others appreciate you. Whether you know it or not, you are appreciated by others. Be it you provide for your family or gave your coworker some great advice. People appreciate those things, even if they don’t say it to you directly. Remember, not everyone is confident enough to tell you they appreciate you. Even if you are not aware of it, there is a good chance that you are appreciated.

There is a lot more that contributes to the fact that you have not wasted your life. The most important thing here is to value the small things. Money is a man-made concept, and humans existed way before currency. A man-made concept does not put a value on your life. We live for the experience here on earth, not what society tells us to. Let’s not get lost in what society has done to us and continue to live as humans on a planet we are here to explore and learn from. The sun keeps rising, and so do you.
