Dogs in Togs — Part 1

How cute are they!

Dog rescue is not all gloom and doom! We are always glad to have fun and happy times whenever we can.

Have you ever noticed how much character rescue dogs have? Once they are rehabilitated, they are good looking dogs and each dog in its own unpredictable and even unusual way.

Rescue dogs are smart and they have moxie. Otherwise, they would not have been able to survive their challenging, even life-threatening, circumstances.

Personally, because we are dog professionals, we are even partial to dogs with some attitude.

This is the perfect type of dog to rock costumes and clothing gear, from time to time. We call it Dogs in Togs.

Let us be clear that sometimes, in Canada, dogs need sweaters and outerwear. Maybe even boots, on some days, Canada being what it is.

We do not advocate costumes for dogs that are too tight or that scare or distress the dog. No, never in a million years.

But we consulted with several vets before we ran this photo contest and they told us that a few moments in a Halloween costume or a Christmas scarf for a couple pictures is okay. If your dog absolutely hates it, he will let you know.

So, with that, here are some of our favorite decked out doggies.

Buttons

Buttons came to us with a severe heart condition. He wasn’t expected to live more than a few months, so he came in a hospice dog. He has been blessing BMAR with his cuteness and attitude for five years now, as one of our long-term sanctuary babies. That is to say that he is now a permanent resident of East Texas. Every country boy needs a flannel shirt, don’t you think?

Our Boy Buttons

MacBeth

Here is former BMAR girl MacBeth, showing off her Lone Star State roots. You can take the dog out of Texas but you can’t take Texas out of the dog.

Remember that BMAR’s primary mission — or one of them — is to focus on rescuing pit bulls and pittie mixes. Isn’t she wonderful? She also looks like a wise old soul, too, don’t you think, with her dark calm eyes. There is just something about pittie faces that melts our hearts.

MacBeth — now living her best life in Canada

Kratos

Would you LOOK at this wonderful boy? This is Kratos, dressing up for his first Christmas in Canada in 2022.

Honestly, it’s the ear flaps that make this outfit, don’t you think? This is the best dog and we are so happy he found a stable, loving, and forever home up north. Look at that cute pink tongue! Just the tiniest bit of cheeky attitude to this boy — like a lot of male models, he’s gorgeous and he knows it.

We love dogs with darker coats — they wear their clothes so well!

Kya

Our next dog is a great rescue success story! This is Kya. This photo was taken at her graduation from her beginning training class. That’s her devoted and loving mom Andrea holding her certificate. Kya was deemed not adoptable; she was so abused and had so many issues. She even had night terrors and screamed like Andrea had never heard from an animal when touched. Everybody thought Andrea was crazy when she said just send her to me. Look at her now — that smile! Andrea is going straight to heaven for adopting this dog, that’s what we say.

Think these are the only cute dog photos we have? Not even close!

……Stayed tuned for Dogs in Togs, Part 2 coming to Medium soon!
