I agree. Arrival is excellent, one of the very best alien films. Contact is very good, but pretty much collapses in the end: Ellie’s hologram dad, the conflating of faith and science, and the overall cheesiness of Matthew McTexas as the enlightened evangelical comforting the explorer scientist (Ellie). Lame ending, yet illustrating the missing cosmological narrative addressed in my book Specter of the Monolith.
