This is a well-researched article. I think you’ve clearly made a strong case about the need to speak openly about such issues. But I’m actually curious now how endemic these problems are in other countries with Muslim majorities. Is this a ‘one off’ thing or is it vastly more common?
Because one thing that a lot of people (in particular those on the left) have problems with is generalizing to all Muslims, and at least with terrorism it seems correct to say that the number of extreme Muslims is a really small percentage. So it would be nice to know, apart from these horrific examples, how common is the problem of sexual abuse in most Muslim-majority countries?
You would think that it would be common, as it seems directly tied to a number of the Koran’s verses. But its not clear how seriously most people actually take the Koran. Do they literally believe all verses, or do they ‘pick and choose’ like how a lot of Christians ignore many claims in the old testament?
