“A mirror reflection of the same life, but in a different place.”

A love for sea, the people, and the land beyond his own, Mitchell from room 212 shares his story.

On a typical school day, Mitchell can be found at Prospect High School. Along with most of his peers, he gets himself out of bed to start his first hour class. In his case, he’ll be found in Oceanography. The science elective is the only marine biology course the school provides and covers topics in how bodies of water function, the ecosystems within them, the positive and negative human-environment interactions, and more, Mitchell has determined that this is by far his favorite class. His love for the creatures among the sea has done nothing but blossom here.

At the end of the day, he returns home. Here you’ll be introduced to his family which includes his mom, dad, and dog. His father had divorce his first wife a few years before Mitchell was born. When he remarried, his wife soon became Mitchell’s mom. Growing up he had half siblings, Jamie and Nicole, but with different mothers and an age gap, he considers himself an only child.

On days he doesn’t go straight home after school, the best place to look for him is on the outskirts of Arlington Heights. Here you’ll find a pizza place by the name of Via Arenella. A further look into the kitchen, and you’ll find Mitchell. He loves having the opportunity to work with so many passionate people. They bring life into the workplace and keep things interesting. He enjoys having not only a variety of jobs to do within the kitchen, but also getting to do it with so many fantastic people.

A moment that really changed Mitchell and opened his eyes was at an event in Miami for his father’s work. His father, who owns a publishing company for American beauty products, was attending this conference to meet with people from all around the world. Mitchell came along, but saw a new perspective once he arrived there. Once at the conference, he found himself listening to an Englishman’s stories of his son, Mitchell was in awe at the similarities between the son and himself. It was like “a mirror reflection of the same life, but in a different place.” There was a boy across the world that had been raised completely differently in a place with unfamiliar people and customs to Mitchell, yet their stories share many great parallels. From that point on, Mitchell had become aware of how small are world really is. To this day, the unknown English boy has really put things into perspective for Mitchell.
