Antrim

Antrim is a town and civil parish in county Antrim, in the northeast of Northern Ireland. Antrim is the county town of county Antrim and it was the administrative centre of Antrim Borough Council. There are different attractions and historical destinations to head for which are located in Antrim, and it is not even far from Belfast the capital, just 22 miles by rail.

There are different places in Antrim that make it a beautiful spot in Northern Ireland and attracts lots of people and tourists to it. The attractions in county Antrim differ from parks and gardens, to beaches, castles, as well as historical buildings and houses.

Antrim

Antrim Castle Gardens is one of the most famous destinations in Antrim, Northern Ireland, and one of the places that you should definitely check — it is even a good hit for events such as Christmas bazaars. Antrim Castle Gardens & Clotworthy House is considered a historic gem and it was even supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in order to become in the same measure of beauty which we are exposed to.

As much as people come to these gardens to check the beauty of nature, there is also another reason behind their existence, which is visiting the Garden Heritage Exhibition in order to know more about the story of the Massereene Family, as well as of course coming to see the Clotworthy House.

Inside this place, you will find Antrim Castle — which is also known as Massereene Castle — which passed through different stages during its development; it was erected in the stages between 1613 and 1662, it was destroyed by fire in 1922, and it was finally demolished in the 1970's.

Antrim Round Tower is another destination and touristic attraction to be considered when it comes to Antrim. Antrim Tower is one of those old buildings and one of Antrim’s ancient monastic settlements. This tower was built back in the 10th century and the main reason behind its appearance was to serve as a bell tower for protection from raiders and is locally known as “The Steeple”.

Antrim Round Tower is 28 meters long and even though tourists are not allowed to come inside and check it, it is still considered one of the best when it comes to visiting interesting places in Antrim.

In addition to being considered a bell tower and a place to watch for invaders, it is also considered a good option for keeping the important things in a safe place during the times of trouble.

The Glens of Antrim — translated into valleys — and since you are going to visit Antrim then a road trip would be a perfect idea in this case. The Antrim Coast was actually built back in the 1830s and spans a massive hundred and sixty kilometers around the whole shoreline.

There are nine glens out there and they radiate from the Antrim Plateau to the coast.

There are other interesting places to add to your list if you are planning a visit to Antrim, such as Antrim Loughshore Park, Shane’s Castle, The Maid of Antrim, Barbican Gate Lodge, Deerpark Bridge, Six Mile Water, Castle Upton, Crumlin Glen, and many more.

Generally speaking, there are different interesting places in county Antrim that could be added to the long list. From the different recommendations that I would like to give when it comes to county Antrim, there is Lisburn City which is only 8 miles away from Belfast, on the River Lagan.

The list of the different places to be visited in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, could still go longer than that, such as Carrickfergus Castle, Toome Canal and Toome Bridge, Cushendun Caves, Giants Causeway in Bushmills, Runkerry Beach, and many more places.
