Northern Ireland

Are you travelling to Northern Ireland soon? Will Armagh be your destination? If yes then you should read this story because I am going to help you with some suggestions related to the places which you are supposed to visit and the things which you are supposed to do.

Armagh is a county town in county Armagh and a city in Northern Ireland, as well as a civil parish. Armagh is home to the Church of Ireland which is known as St. Patrick’s Cathedral which dates back to the 19th century. There are different beautiful, historical and interesting places to visit in the city of Armagh, let’s go through those which we consider the most important.

Armagh City

In every city you are going to visit, the first thing which you are going to check and go to is the center of that city, which is exactly the same thing we would recommend for all those going to Armagh. Exploring Armagh’s city center is interesting for the old building that the person will be passing by. One of those important buildings is the famous St. Patrick’s Church, which is not only one of the most famous, but which you will find history inside it.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

In addition to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, there is also one important and famous place to visit while being in Armagh, Northern Ireland, which is Armagh Robinson Library and which is a museum holding rare and exquisite books, making it the perfect destination for all those books lovers as well as history admirers.

Visit Armagh Planetarium. I believe this is a place that would definitely educate the visitors and bring them outside with a good amount of information. Armagh Planetarium is very close to the city centre and this means that it will be also close to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This planetarium is located just next to Armagh Observatory, both taking about 14 acres of landscape grounds known as Armagh Astropark.

Completing your journey in Armagh means that you will still need to explore Lough Neagh, which is a large freshwater lake in Northern Ireland. Lough Neagh could give you the chance to spend a whole day there between the beauty of nature, wildlife, bird watching, play areas for kids and beautiful restaurants for adults; it is the place where you will have a day away from the hustle of the city with your family.

Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland is also the place where one of the scenes of the famous movie series, Game of Thrones, was filmed and which was referred to as ‘the smoking sea’.

One of the very interesting places to visit in Armagh is the 576 meter mountain of Slieve Gullion which lies above and at the center of a mysterious geological formation of lesser hills: The Ring of Gullion. This place actually dominates the south Armagh landscape and its Slieve Gullion Forest Park is one of the places to consider in this area because it combines between walking trail, scenic drive, adventure play park with Giant’s Lair, children’s story trail and of course a coffee shop for the adults.

Adding to the list of places to visit in Armagh, Northern Ireland, Armagh County Museum could be also a nice option. Armagh County Museum is a small building that is located in the city centre and it includes many old wedding dresses, military uniforms, railway memorabilia and natural history specimens, and also the Royal Irish Fusilliers, making it one beneficial stop for all those who are interested in the old customes.
