What causes mood swings in a narcissist?
Narcissists have mood swings.
YES and NO.
Their baseline emotion is indifference. They just don't care too much, they can't feel, or more like cold, numb, and empathy for them its a weakness, but they might take advantage of it.
They are not bipolar it's true, they don't have mood swings suddenly Unless something prompts them to feel a certain way like ups and downs, Supply will give them euphoria and take them to seventh heaven, or a threat to their ego makes them angry and rage out.
When their false self-becomes cracked, they get depressed.
So their swings between depression and elation are totally correlated to external events like narcissistic injury or narcissistic supply. And they are not related to hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters, sugar, or other substances.
Cycles of ups and downs:
They are emotionally flat, or numb, but they go into depression or an inability to feel pleasure when they lose their supply or due to any life stressor. On the other hand, when they're experiencing euphoria, they become more grandiose, hyperactive, extremely entertaining, but any kind of disagreement, will depress them, shifting their mood into depressed again, and outrageous.
The contrast is very sharp, it is a mood swing, and the reason behind it you, something in you, something about you, something you did, and you're walking on eggshells not knowing what da fuck wrong with them.
Back to the question: I was on a flight the other day when the air hostess came up to me and said, "Excuse me, sir, would you like to have dinner?" I said, "What are the options?"
She said, "Yes and No."
