Attending Calabasas High School From 2006–2010

I grew up in Calabasas, CA an unknown suburb at the time in the midst of Los Angeles. Calabasas was small public school that was was populated by mainly Caucasians and was often referred to as “calablackless.”

Calabasas was mainly known for having a small population of African American students- about 5 percent, in comparision to the 80 percent Caucasian. Generally schools neighboring Calabasas had a 24 percent Caucasian population. The rest of the student population was Asian and Hispanic. Another little fun fact was that Calabasas High School had the worst football record in the whole valley.

Since the school was in a wealthy area it was common that celebrities would visit, in 2009 then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger held a press conference in regards to distributing free textbooks to students.

Most students’ parents attended prestigious schools and held a high level of education. Majority of the parents either worked in the entertainment industry or were doctors and lawyers. Although Calabasas was a public school they did not accept open enrollment and many students who didn’t live in the Calabasas community were accepted only if their parents worked in the area. Those students had to maintain a certain GPA and also maintain a clean school record, as opposed to the students who lived in the community.

Calabasas was in the Las Virgenes Unified School District which only had two high schools, Calabasas and Agoura.
