Fast food is a great analogue (if we consider fast food only to be the garbage that you described, not actually decent and fresh-made, but quick restaurant food.) It is a substitute, it’s nothing like the real thing, but it’s fast and it can suffice when the good stuff isn’t available. It tends to suffice for men more often that for women, which in my theories is because a majority of men tend to be very, very accustomed to a purely physical kind of an orgasm in the form of nothing but ejaculation, just a quick relief to get out of the way. Women tend to need more of an emotional release, I think, based on my personal experiences. Thus, the porn they watch has to make sense, they need to see the connection and the buildup, not just the raw act or just the body parts of their preference, which is often plenty enough to get off of for men.
The big distinction here is between the ‘just getting off’ sort of an orgasm and a deeply, emotionally connected kind, an euphoria more than just a business handled. I’d be inclined to claim that both sexes are capable of both main types of an orgasm under the right conditions. I’d also be inclined to claim that the deep, emotional type is preferable to most, just like a wonderfully cooked tenderloin is preferred over a shitty shoe sole burger by most, but the burger often suffices and it’s so much easier and faster to obtain.
Women are generally likely to be shamed out of wanting “just sex” whereas men are taught getting laid is an expectation and not doing so is personal failure. This primes men to being the primary target audience for porn and roughly defines the kind of porn they need, at a bare minimum.
Of course everyone has their own preferences and variations of what they like, but these trends do seem to exist to some extent.
Now, with the inbuilt sexism of society and perhaps other reasons causing the 70% vs 30% porn consumption rate, the oversimplified and obviously fake sex ‘porn for men’ is going to be the standard. And since production of that kind of porn is faster and probably easier, there is generally little incentive to make the ‘for women’ genre of porn, even though it could be better for everyone in general. Not only would it most likely be pleasant to watch for a much wider audience and wouldn’t warp people’s views on sex as bad.
Your vision of porn depicting happy relationships, wholesome far beyond the average real-life relationship is very unlikely to become anything but a one-in-a-billion niche thing, but the current ‘For Women’ category could evolve to be a fairly healthy mainstream midpoint between the terrible average porn of today and your idea of good porn.
the rise of the fuckboy mentality, in which guys want sex that is devoid of emotional attachment, companionship, basic human warmth and connection?
I don’t think there’s a reason to shame, blame and brand people for wanting “just sex.” There’s women who also want it and there’s nothing wrong with it. There can be basic human warmth and connection without much emotional attachment or companionship. A person who doesn’t necessarily want the latter two from a consenting sex partner with mutual desires isn’t a “fuckboy” or a “slut”(which I consider the female counterpart of fuckboy), they’re just people. People with different preferences in sex from yours.
I don’t know how people can waste their time on it or consider it pleasurable.
I see your point and I tend to agree to an extent, it is a waste of time to anyone with a fragment of imaginations and who’s felt a deep connection and proper sexual arousal and pleasure. But it is a passable substitute for anyone who doesn’t have prior experiences of any sort. And anything can be pleasurable. Again, unnecessary judgementality against different kinds of people.
I don’t mean to invalidate your opinions, but you seem to project your views on sex to be that of all women as well as aiming to insult any men who happen to have differing views on sex.
