Joining Battleground Texas in 2014 was one of the best decisions I ever made. Organizing quickly became a passion of mine, and I owe it all to Battleground Texas.

The tools and knowledge I learned in 2014 allowed me to go on to work for one of my heroes, Hillary Clinton, in 2016. My decision to leave Texas was not easy, but I knew it was something I had to do. I went to Virginia because I knew I could learn so much being that it once had been a Republican stronghold. We organized everyday and our work there eventually paid off when Hillary won the state. It was an incredible learning experience — and although we fell short, I still feel so proud knowing that I was part of such an amazing team.

After the election, Battleground Texas offered me the opportunity to come back home to organize in Texas. Battleground has always felt like home, so the decision to come back was pretty easy.

Growing up in a non-voting household, I never imagined that I would become first an organizer, and now a Field Director — focused on registering and turning out voters. I see myself in many of the young people that we register because I was them just a few years ago. I’m living proof that organizing works because I was a disengaged young voter who was empowered by an organizer who invited me to get involved.

I feel honored to be leading the field team here at Battleground Texas. We have a busy year ahead of us, and I could not be more excited about all the work that we will do in our great state.

I look forward to seeing y’all out in the field!

Game on, Texas.
