You Can’t Separate Derrick Rose the Knick From Derrick Rose the Defendant

While I understand the reason for rape shield laws, I am unsure if they are truly fair to the accused. If the assumption is that most accusers are truly victims then in the aggregate these rape shield laws are helpful. The times where these rules are not helpful though are when an accuser is not really a victim and he or she is trying to extort or smear someone.

Two things worry me about this case. First, the accuser is asking for money (and a lot of money) without pushing for a criminal case. Second, the accuser is allowing her story to get out there by giving anonymous quotes that are clearly trying to add to the pressure on the defendant. The second point is remarkably similar to Rose’s attorney trying to get her name and character out there to mitigate his position.

Really the article seems to say. I don’t like Derrick Rose because he probably is guilty of this crime. I think this because there are a lot of people in this country and Rose’s line of work who do such things. I have no proof and I don’t know much about the person who accused him. Still, since it is probable he did this let’s destroy his reputation. This seems unfair.
