On job postings especially when hiring developers…#rant

If your company job posting stays more than a week without any favorable responses, you should check what is wrong with your post.

One of the most common mistakes I’ve found in job postings is that the person who frames the post doesn’t have enough knowledge on the requirements for the role.

You can’t just go on Google, search for “Full Stack Developer” and post whatever you find there. It doesn’t speak well of your organization. We won’t apply!

Another problem is the lack of details. Your post should contain at least the following:

  • Role
  • Experience level
  • Job type(s) (Full time/Part time/Contract, On site/Remote)
  • Location
  • Preferred technologies, frameworks and tools
  • Renumeration

Lastly, please do proper industry analysis, so you’re not looking for people that don’t exists except you create them. If you don’t some person will lie to you to get the job because he/she is hungry. Man must wack!

Let your requirements be realistic, especially when specifying number of years of experience. Na this one dey vex me pass. Many times, the developer you’re looking for is already employed or won’t have your time at all.

I think recruiters can do a better job with job postings. I hope another one doesn’t annoy me anytime soon.
