My dearest baby,
You are loved with ALL THE LOVE of the universe combined. You are intelligent, courageous and an inspiration for us all. You are PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE.
The stories that you will hear in your lifetime will send messages that are not always clear. Sometime the messages will be of RESPECT, SHARING and CARING. And something the actions or words of the world, our communities, our friends, our family and ourselves may not be enacting the BEST version of ourselves and our VALUES.
My promise to you is that I will continue to question my own thoughts, ideas and actions to see how they fit within our FAMILY VALUES.
I also promise to share with you my PROCESSES, in some way, the need to explain or justify the HOW and WHY will help keep me accountable to you. Because the world in which we live in is hurt. Our people are hurting and there is much pain in the world.
TOGETHER, your dad and I and your brother will create our own paths of learning and teach you the way to live a life that you can be proud of and that your ancestors and children will be PROUD of you too.
There is something you should know about PEOPLE. We are all different, just like the stars and the snowflakes. Each of us unique and beautiful inside and out, each with our own paths, and styles, and strengths and KNOWLEDGES. If we use WONDER as a scenic verb, one that tells us to dance and learn and SEE people with their infinite wisdom and possibilities. Then we can recreate RESPECT, we can grow and multiply RESPECT — because we have started from a place of curiosity and DIVERSITY in its purest form — through ourselves and our relationships with others ACROSS DIFFERENCES. Basically it is all the things that make up who we are, what we like, how we think, what helps us process feelings, and information and people and stuff.
We each have sparks, like the stars in the sky, inside of us. This is your journey and your path. Like your dad, I and your brother, we each have to find our own way, while also being true to our VALUES and living them.
It has taken me a lifetime of learning through school and life, to understand what you possess indiscriminately. You treat people in ways that does not show preconceived judgment.
The base emotions we possess, are what we as people are about. IF we IMAGINE stories and actions that speak of COOPERATION, RESPECT for DIVERSITY and is grounded in CARE — we have all we need inside us.
Let me share with you the TRUTH ABOUT STORIES that I learned from my friends and mentors who are a part of the Indigenous Information Research Group. They helped me learn how to be better aligned with my values for me, for our family and for our communities.
Listen to your heart, listen to your SOUL and don’t let the stories that others tell take you away from your CORE VALUES and the PROCESSES that RESPECT them.
All my love,
