Similar Minds:

Social media has been booming since the early 2000’s if not a little earlier. It is a spotlight to meet new people, keep up with family and friends that have moved far away, or to vent etc. Most of its in live time so therefor the news is right there and a click away. People and businesses feed off of social media and therefore has caused it to explode the way it has.

Homophily:

Homophily is defined as love of the same. Which in my words I would explain it like of people that share the same interests. With social media, homophily has been able to be shown more in seeing different people from all over like the same things as you. This is a feeling of empowerment and belonging and it is fed on. Everyone wants to feel like they belong somewhere and these sites help with that.

Algorithms:

Algorithms: are in social media to make it easier to find things you like. If you continue to like a certain site or certain posts of things that interest you, you will start to see more things similar start popping up on your feed more often. This has helped businesses and groups find people and people find them by simply liking something. While people still find this interesting it can be helpful.
