So, you’ve decided to go the gym daily. Congratulations! And now you’re thinking of what to wear.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “What in the world is she implying? I will just wear a t-shirt & track pants..” No, no, no! It is very important to wear the right clothes in gym. All of the cargo shorts, capris and strappy tank tops in the universe won’t do you any good as you stand in front of the doors to a whole new separate world, where the common understanding of what is and isn’t fashionable, practical or acceptable are completely useless as you prepare to enter the world of the gym.

The answer is pretty simple. Wear what makes you comfortable. Wear whatever you want. Wear it right!

TOPS

DO — Wear basic T-Shirts made of 100% cotton that keeps moisture away from your skin when you sweat. For the fitting, you don’t want your T-shirt to be so loose that it will get in the way when you’re lifting weights, but a skin-tight tshirt will make you look like a fool, even if you have a great body.

DON’T — Avoid the barely-there, tiny muscle tank at any costs, you don’t want to look cheesy right! If you must show off, go with a sleeveless T-shirt.

BOTTOMS

DO — Whether you choose track pants or shorts, choosing the right length is very important. Shorts should be no longer than a few inches below the knee. If you choose pants for the gym, make sure they reach your ankles. Too long, and you’re liable to trip on them while running on the treadmill.

DON’T — Avoid men’s swimwear, cargo shorts, puffy cotton sweats, yoga pants and capris, please!

SHOES

DO — One area in your whole attire where you can take a fashion risk! Choose a pair that allows you to express a bit of your personality without going over the top. Play a little with colors like red, yellow, neon.

DON’T — You know this one well — no loafers, dress shoes or sandals!

When figuring out how to dress for the gym, comfort is the most important factor since you don’t want your clothes to disturb your workout. But you also want to look good, and with so many choices in workout clothes, your options are endless. But remember: Just because a brand sells capri-length track pants doesn’t mean you have to buy them. Dress like a man. Work out like a man. Go bbazinga!
