Window Design and Hardware 101
Interior design choices can be so complicated, yet they are so important to the completed look of a room and entire home. Drapery hardware design decisions are no different. Considering how important windows are to finishing a room, the hardware used to frame those windows should be carefully considered. When making decisions about what types of hardware to purchase, we’ve thought of a few considerations that will simplify the process.
- What’s the style of the home? Is it contemporary or traditional? Hardware should complement the overall style of the home and we have options to support any style.
- What is the purpose of the hardware? Is this a stationary or operable window? For functional windows we always suggest using round rods in so that draperies can easily slide open and closed. However stationary windows could have square, rectangular, flat, or hammered rods. Considering the necessary function of the windows can simplify the decision making process.
- What completed system will best accent that window? If you’ve chosen a rod, have you considered with style finial will best complement your room? Or would a french return meet your style needs? What color and finish would look best in the space?
- Do you need any finishing touches? Wands to make pulling high drapes easier, or tiebacks to bring in extra light.
