On Your Way to the Camps, I Just Want You to Know…

Aaron, I had to blink twice when I began reading your article, but fortunately, I am a fast reader and your intent quickly became clear. As a country, as humans, we need to rid ourselves of the notion that those in power will make rational decisions, unless we compel them to do so. We know this to be true because our leaders are human, and humans are notoriously, consistently, disastrously fallible, flawed, and foolish. It was a leader, remember, who sent the National Guard onto Kent State campus with loaded weapons. It was a leader (or group of leaders) who decided that the Japanese should be interned. It was political leaders who fought against the Voting Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968. So, while leaders may do things right, on occasion, they are only restrained in their collective idiocy by the demands of the populace- witness the rise and fall of Joseph McCarthy.
