This week I have started Greek literature class. his is my first time in a greek class and my first time ever studying specifically greek. when starting in the class the teacher appeared with a guitar talking of what is more valuable in life guitar or a computer(specifically a laptop). He said that a laptop can cause more fascism and a guitar can stop it, referring to a certain presidential candidate in the poles currently. Already I knew that this was going to be an interesting class to be in. one of the biggest things I love about this class is the fact that the books and materials are free to students, which made me feel most appreciative. The first class we went straight into learning about the greek literature by talking about the Trojan War. Acheans/Donoans vs. Trojan, where we started learning greek mythology mixed with history, certain terms like mens for wrath, divine wrath, and kleos meaning glory. He assigned us a reading as homework. This reading talked about the Judgement of Paris, Achilles and his affiliation wit Troy, and Aphrodite goal of destroying Troy for kleos. I will admit the the reading was a bit confusing for me to understand and left me with questions for the next class. Luckily in the next class it was great because the teacher was so understandable and started making references to real life events and discussions. One of the best connections he made was how a lot of the stories told in greek literature are still topics that are discussed presently. after class he assigned us to walk around the national mall just to view how others interact with each other and see if there are other exhibits relate the the certain discussions. Walking around the national mall this weekend I saw something very interesting. People were walking around playing PokemonGo and there was a strange honor to it. people walking trying to catch the right Pokemon and fight over gyms to honor the teams they are on. this was amazing experience.
