Another reason not to feed digital trolls, especially in a contentious election season? Arguing online doesn’t work at a basic psychological level, because it reduces time for self-reflection and ignores vital context of tone, facial expression, and sarcasm. Reddit forums, Facebook posts, texting and the like are great instant communication and knowledge sharing tools, but they’re lousy venues for nuance or emotion when compared to face-to-face.
