In its entire history, the US has rarely gone more than a few years without being in a war. The longest stretch was after the Civil War (probably because we experienced it in our backyard). I know you don’t want to be told it’s part of our culture, but our history suggests otherwise. Nationalism is a religion in the US, the flag is our cross, and its greatest expression is war. We have to face that reality before any anti-war movement stands a chance.
