Zuzanna Licko from Emigre designed a deliberately bitmapped typeface in the mid to late 1980s, the original name of which escapes me. Currently, it’s called “Lo Res,” and you can see it here: http://www.emigre.com/EF.php?fid=101. I used it once in a corporate banking brochure, and while the design buyer loved it, the bean counter bosses didn’t. I had to replace it with Franklin Gothic.
