Ele resolveu usar o aplicativo Periscope, que faz transmissões ao vivo para todo mundo, para mostrar sua qualidade vocal e técnica no piano.
As transmissões de Matt não são simplesmente cantar músicas já consagradas, mas usar os comentários de seus seguidores como letra. Cabe à ele colocar ritmo, melodia e uma sonoridade exemplar. Suas transmissões não são periódicas, ou seja, não tem data e horários com periodicidade definida, mas sempre que possível, ele está online. “Definitivamente gosto de estar online e me conectar com outras pessoas, mas eu também amo brincar com meu gato, escrever música e estar com minha noiva. De toda forma, eu adoro abrir o Periscope e cantar alguns comentários”, diz. Para ele, as redes sociais são um bom canal para acesso ao conhecimento, transmissão de noticias e, além disso, uma excelente ferramenta para fazer amizades com pessoas ao redor do mundo. Até chegar à forma que é hoje, Matt pensou um tempo em como ele iria usar o aplicativo. “De início eu só entrei, toquei piano e as pessoas assistiam, mas não era muito ativo (não tinha interatividade). Entendi que não estava usando todas as possibilidades que o aplicativo me oferecia. Eu precisava de um jogo, uma brincadeira que não seria difícil explicar. Então eu simplesmente comecei a cantar os comentários”, explica. “Uma pessoa comentou ‘então você vai cantar tudo?’, e eu cantei “então você vai cantar tudo?”. Logo em seguida ele falou que aquilo era maravilhoso”, completa.
Para cada série de comentários, ele garante que cada uma tem e terá uma boa melodia com uma precisão única. “Eu tento dobrar a melodia, então estou realmente compondo uma música com os comentários e não simplesmente tocando três acordes e citando os comentários”, frisa. Em suas transmissões, Matt não mostra seu rosto, apenas foca a câmera no piano e suas mãos. “Eu gosto que as pessoas assistem pela minha perspectiva”, diz.
É de se imaginar que alguns comentários são obscenos e com algumas pegadinhas, entretanto, Walsh sabe lidar muito bem com essas situações. “Algumas pessoas definitivamente me tiram do sério. Isso porque elas percebem que eu dou muito poder à elas e eu canto o que elas digitam. Mas é obvio que eu não vou cantar comentários de ódio e racistas. Eu canto algo como “Eu faço isso porque não tenho amigos”, porque é engraçado e também canto “supercaliffragilisticexpialidocious”, porque é difícil”, conta Matt que realmente agradece cada comentário de difícil cantoria.
“Matt é um professor muito paciente e cuidadoso. Ele tem ensinado minha filha de 15 anos por alguns meses e agora estamos extremamente gratos por seu trabalho. Ele tem muitos conhecimentos sobre diferentes tipos de música e continua estudando, o que o tona um melhor professor.
