The Beard Continues To Grow….
Over the past week or so, I’ve started drowning myself in PHP, Java, and Javascript. It’s not all at once and nothing like read a sentence from one book on a language and go to the next, rinse and repeat.
I spend a day on Java then the next day on PHP or whatever. I use TeamTreehouse at the moment and it’s kind of nice when the video is short and every few videos you have a coding challenge or test.
I came to the conclusion that I needed JS (Javascript) a few days ago when I started to overhaul the first website I did. Just in the first few videos, I found out JS does a lot of things. In fact, I fully intend on making the contact page of my site use JS to create the contact form in a different and neat looking way. It will be a bit more interactive and I’m thinking fun to create as well as writing the code to validate text entries.
I’m no guru yet, but I’ve had so many ideas pop up in my head of things I would love to build but I know I don’t have that level of experience and knowledge yet. However, everyday that I wake up and throw some code down for a website or one of my hopeful projects, I always hit it head on with the attitude that I will get this accomplished. So far, I’ve yet to actually fail on any of them even though it might take a few days for me to figure it out.
At this current time in my life, I’m getting some medical issues straightened out so I can’t exactly work. I also don’t want to start a job in the city I’m in only to have to step out all the time for my medical appointments and so forth. To top that off, once my medical events have subsided and I’m back as close to 100% as I can get, I plan on relocating, so that’s another issue. I don’t want to sign on with someone and leave within a few months.
I’m really enjoying all the stuff I’m learning. It’s actually nice to sit down and fill the brain with more cool things that will make me a better programmer. I keep pushing in hopes that some programming issues will one day click. Simple things like manipulating arrays and being able to do anything and everything to them. I’m no master at that yet, but I can do a few things with them.
I will start my MBA in a week and I’m excited as well as a bit fearful of it all. Some people actually know who I am and know that I won’t let fear stop me from doing things.
When I worked at a company a few years ago, I was first introduced into making an application using an API. I really enjoyed that and wanted more. A project has come to me and once again, I’ll be using someone’s API in order to render information on a page. It won’t be crazy deep or anything, but it will be a blast. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to make something awesome with my Javascript skills that I should have grown nicely by then.
I have no idea how many people have read my first post or that might read this one, but I promise that I will continue writing and eventually start covering code. In fact, I’m going to do an article really quick on using Vagrant. Why not right?
Have you hugged your beard today?
