You have had pain and strife
Balling them into the corners of your cheeks
To taste them like wine.
Sometimes you forgot to spit
Your reasoning left you,
What sense you had before was gone
They peppered your love
Hitting inside the bridge of your nose
Making your eyes water.
*
One day, still intoxicated
You met someone just like you
Someone you didn’t long to fix
And cut into the perfect pattern
Someone who didn’t want to fix you
Filling the missing gaps, expanding
To fill the tiniest of holes
And suddenly
Your taste matured
Whole now, you learnt that love did not
Need to hurt
And although “easy love” is mythical
You found someone that didn’t compress your chest into your spine
