Today’s Adventure, Tomorrow’s Future

A new chapter in life often begins with traveling to a new or familiar location. There is a sense of wonder, mystery, and adventure that tickles my imagination and fuels my adrenaline. Questions go unresolved until time unfolds the adventurous story of what will come.

Today’s adventure begins on my 64th flight, this time flying from San Diego to Albuquerque as I left my brother and his family to visit my aunt and her family. This is one of those familiar locations, and it is filled with excitement as my cousin recently got engaged and I will be hearing the details of the wedding planning.

Which leads me to my next thought. I love my family. Although we are not perfect we definitely have a mature, drama-free, silly, and respectable relationship. We don’t always see eye to eye, but we can still have a healthy debate from time to time. Our heritage is primarily German and the strong-willed personalities including my own can spice things up with a bit of sass and class. We are creatively unique and loyal to our commitments. We are opinionated and kind-hearted. And if there is one thing about my family that I see consistently it’s that we love deeply. Whether it’s immediate family, extended family, friends we consider family, or even pets — we love those closest with a deep love that saying “goodbye” or “see you later” can bring a tear to our eye or leave a void in our heart.

In about 3 weeks I will be moving back home as I transition from one mission field to another. And as I say goodbye to my friends that have become my family and a place that has become my home, I will also be inviting into my life a series of small adventures which encompass the unknown. After 5 years of living near the city, I will be moving back to a small town where everything is familiar and a good adventure is hard to come by. However, I recently realized that I’ll be able to spend quality time with my family of which I’ve missed while living almost 1,000 miles away. And with a family that loves so deeply, why wouldn’t I be excited to reconnect them and have them join with me in the journey that is to come.

As I raise my complimentary flight beverage in the air I say, here’s to embracing the unknown, holding onto the bold dreams of tomorrow, and never letting go of my family all over the world. Cheers.
