Buffalo play an important role in a healthy ecosystem. Their hooves are shaped in such a way that they actually aerate the soil as they travel together in large herds.

Their manure provides vital nutrients to the earth. In their once vast numbers, the large amount of organic matter created by their droppings helped to trap carbon below the surface of the soil, preventing it from reaching the atmosphere. The Buffalo were once a huge part of building soil health.

Bison meat is nutritionally superior to beef. It is an incredibly protein-dense food supplying 17 grams per 4oz serving. It is considered an excellent source of protein and well-loved in the fitness industry for packing such a muscle-building punch while remaining low in fat and calories.

Bison meat is very high in essential minerals such as iron, zinc and selenium. One 4oz portion offers 13% of the daily value of iron, 31% of the daily value of selenium and 35% of the daily value of zinc. It’s much lower in fat than beef, yet contains a higher percentage of healthy fats that fuel our brain and bodies.

Bison is an incredible resource. Traditionally, every single part of the animal was used for various necessities for the whole tribe. The hides provided warmth and were utilized to create shawls, boots, shelter, drums, rattles and more. Bladders and the horns could be used for water vessels.
