For new parents, finding answers to questions about how their child is developing when they need it can be a frustratingly difficult task. There are of course real-world resources like doctors and family, though that may not always be a feasible option when the answer is needed. Online searching and social media is another go-to, but again, it’s not always the most reliable or trusted source and in some cases, can lead to more concern than necessary.

This is where Kinedu comes into play.

The startup is helping solve this problem for parents who want to ensure their child is developing as they should. It is also an aid to ensure extended family, friends, and even care givers have access to the same information to monitor and support growth and milestones.

As Be Curious Partners’ most recent investment, we’re spotlighting Kinedu, with a brief introduction to our favorite child development assistant for parents and families around the world.

How Did Kinedu Start?

Luis Garza, the founder of Kinedu, was an experienced early childhood development entrepreneur who wanted to bring his experience and passion to families around the world. His workplace day care and education center, Advenio, gave him practical experience which he could translate to Kinedu.

From there, Luis began creating a service that gave parents a simple, easy way to track their own child’s development. Just as importantly, Kinedu provided child development exercises that parents could use to ensure their infant would get the necessary stimulation needed to grow essential skills and develop their brain.

There is increasing research that early childhood education helps develop important skills like socialization, co-operation, and more. Kinedu empowers parents and family members to take an active role in child development with effective tools.

What Excites Us About Kinedu?

Kinedu helps parents solve the often nagging question of “am I doing enough as a parent to encourage my child’s development?” However, what was really exciting was the response from users who began using Kinedu. We saw that Kinedu was efficiently converting free users to paid users and growing new channels to acquire customers could scale their proven acquisition model.

This was an exciting piece of data because it shows that the startup is already doing well recruiting and retaining users and that suggested the elusive “product-market-fit” was happening.

We already know that parents are looking for things to do with children to promote development and they aren’t just waiting for the next pediatrician appointment which could be as much as 12 months away.

The potential for Kinedu to continue growing into new geographic markets is also exciting. Parenting and child development is a universal challenge for people around the world. For Kinedu to expand, all that is technically needed is translation of existing materials. The information remains valid no matter which market Kinedu expands into. Also, the quality, do-it-yourself content cuts across socioeconomic classes. As smartphone usage grows around the world, Kinedu lessons are as likely to be found in a condo in Chicago as it is in a favela in Rio.

What Does The Future Hold?

As Kinedu enters additional markets and grows its subscribers, this number will continue to grow. Kinedu is also working on a content refresh and extending the content to older children.

From when we first met Luis until the investment closed, Kinedu launched in Brazil which required a new language to the platform. Based on the technical architecture, this was a pretty straightforward update.

Kinedu is on track to become one of the modern ways that parents track, monitor, and encourage early child development. For many people around the world, Kinedu may be the most accessible and actionable information available for early childhood education.

Be Curious Partners is proud to partner with Kinedu as it continues to expand and grow. If you are interested in reaching out to us to learn more, please don’t hesitate to do so.
