Creasing 2. Alcohol Lamp and Iron

What kind of equipment do you use when you make creasing?

My workroom uses a tool named Regard made in France.

This equipment has the advantage of keeping the temperature constant in a short period of time or doing various creasing by replacing tips.

But the price is very expensive. So it is true that ordinary people or those who do crafts as a hobby can’t purchase this equipment well.

So I will explain how to draw creasing at a relatively low price at home.

That is the tools and chemicals in the photo.

These are the iron, lamp and alcohol that will make the creasing.

I think people did creasing on the leather by heating metal iron in the past.

One tip here is that it will be less harmful to use ethylene (ethyl) alcohol than methanol (methyl) alcohol.

Methanol is used for industrial purposes and ethylene is used for disinfection.

You can just purchase alcohol for disinfection at the pharmacy. This is diluted by about 30% of water compared to the raw solution, but there is no problem to make a fire.

I bought the iron in the photo in Asakusa, Japan, and I cut the electric wire and covered the blade with leather.

I can just use it as a convenient iron.

Put some alcohol and make a fire.

And heat the iron.

At this time, it is best to find the optimum temperature through several tests since the proper temperature varies depending on the leather.

Straight line is

well drawn.

Curved line is well drawn too.

If you have smaller blade, you can draw the curved line more easily.

If necessary, you can cover the blade with leather more so that you can grab a little more down. Then you can draw the curved line more easily.
