Thinking Strategies: Combating Bias and Faulty Thinking
by Chauncey Glenn
It’s crucial to reframe the thoughts that come automatically or intuitively to us and consider the alternatives.
Adaptive thinking is the ability to recognize and restrain impulsive thoughts by considering alternative ones. Adaptive thinking is successful once your thought responses become deliberate and neutral compared to situational triggers. Adaptive thinking is critical in that it assists us in selecting more reasonable thoughts and serves us to find common ground between emotional attunement and emotional regulation (Durmonski, 2022). It reduces anxiety and alleviates poor decision-making, low self-esteem, stress, and PTSD.
