Automated Drone App Wows Audiences at Launch Hackathon

Mason Itkin from the Impekable team, in collaboration with developers from other tech companies including Jay Chulani, Daniel Treiman, and Hande Cardak participated in the 2016 Launch Festival with their groundbreaking drone automation app, Wieldy.
“Impekable Drone fly home.”
The Launch Hackathon is an event in San Francisco, CA where over a thousand developers and 250 teams spend two days creating an idea from scratch to compete for an up to one million dollar investment. The Launch Festival is backed by the Bay Area’s largest tech companies such as Google, Twitter, and Uber.
The Wieldy app makes it possible for users to command and automate their drone’s flight path in addition to other features like taking selfies. Before this, drone users would have to pilot the drone to make it do what they want. Not everyone has the piloting skills of Maverick from Top Gun, nor do they have the time to learn these skills. Wieldy also lets users post their videos directly to social media from the app, which is great for ventures from enterprise to creatives and hobbyists.
The top five teams get to present their ideas at the main stage of the Launch Festival. Wieldy made it as one of these top projects at the Hackathon and presented their creation to a panel of judges in front of a live audience (as you can see on the GIF above). Wieldy also received an award from Twitter, which included a prize of Apple TVs for the whole team.
Here is the video of the Wieldy team’s pitch at the Launch Festival main stage.
Riding off the momentum from their successful showing at the Launch Festival, the Wieldy team is continuing work on the project. You can find more information about Wieldy on their main website and their DevPost page, which includes a super cool video demo of the drone in action.
With the rise of many smart things and IOT devices entering the market, the future looks interesting to say the least.
In the meantime, companies should not be afraid to pursue the cutting edge.
The sky can only be occupied by the ones who shoot for the stars.
Cheers.
