National Treasure Edremit Cove

Edremit is the cove that seperates Anatolian peninsula from Midilli island and the cove is between Balıkesir and Çanakkale in Aegean Sea. Although Çanakkale’s and Balıkesir’s city center are in Marmara Region, Edremit Cove is at the front of Aegean Region.
History

Edremit Cove at the Troas, Mysia and Aeolis areas’ junction point anciently. The oldest ruin, which has been there since b.c. 50.000, in the area is in Havra county’s İnboğazı Cave. Thebe and Lyrnessos are the oldest and the most important cities in the cove. Because of this, on the other hand Thebe lowland name is used for the cove. These two cities show themselves in İlliad frequently. Cities were looted by Achaeans who had gone to Troy for the war. Hector’s wife was the daughter of Eeiton who was the king of Thebe.

The girl, who Aşil’s armisticed the war for, was the daughter of a Apollon priest in the area. After these things, first the area was colonized by Aiols who came from Midilli then the area respectively came under the rule of Lydians, Persians, Alexander Empire, Kingdom of Pergamon and Rome. In the periods of Rome and Constantinople especially Adramytteion came to the forefront. Even a episcopacy were build in there. After Constantinople Seljukian, Karesi Principality and Ottomans dominated of the area.
Economy

%10 of olive trees in Turkey found in there. 260.000 tons of olives produced from these trees. %15–20 of these olives used as table olives and the remaining olives used in making olive oil. This means 45.000 tons of olive oil so that is 20% of Turkey’s olive oil production.
