Not to Eat

A box of salad

I am to eat for dinner

has many things green.

Textures crunch, or melt.

Pine nut, lemon juice,

sliver of cheese.

A few bites left untouched,

I let them be.

The privilege is mine,

Freedom not to eat.

This was written as part of my journey with intuitive eating. Learning how to eat for nourishment (not body control). Part of this means legalizing foods that were formerly forbidden to me. But the other side, that I find fewer people talking about, is not forcing myself to eat vegetables (out of fear that hunger might drive me to eat forbidden foods later).
