Over time, an aluminum fence will start to show wear and tear. The most common problem is corrosion on the poles connecting the panels. Other issues include bent or broken poles, chipped paint, and rusting brackets. These problems are all easy come by: a simple gust of wind can make a pole wobble, paint wears off fairly quickly, and rusting brackets are almost inevitable in coastal areas with high humidity levels.
This article will serve as a DIY guide to repairing aluminum fencing. The steps are simple enough that anybody can perform the work. These instructions apply to all types of aluminum fencing: residential, commercial or industrial. The methods utilized are essentially the same, and many of the tools needed are available at most home improvement retailer stores.

10 Step To Repair Aluminum Fence in 1 Hour

If your fence is in good condition, you can usually get it back to a like-new condition in less than an hour. Otherwise, take the following steps to see if your job is worth fixing or need replacing.

Step 1: Inspect the aluminum posts and brackets for corrosion. In fact, take off all the existing aluminum fencing so no one walks into the fence while you work on it. If corrosion is heavy or extensive on any part of the structure, then you should replace it. However, if the corrosion is only light and you can easily remove it with a wire brush then continue to step two.

Step 2: Remove debris from the brackets and posts using a wire brush attachment on a drill. This will keep chunks of rust from flying everywhere when you start grinding them down. It will make your work much easier by removing all flaky rust bits before they contaminate your sandpaper.

Step 3: Use 120 grit sandpaper to sand down all the brackets until they are smooth to touch. You can also use a wire brush to further smooth the brackets. The brackets are the attachment points between the fence and the post. The smaller the radius of the bracket, the more they will require sanding.

Step 4: Once all brackets are sanded down, use 80 grit sandpaper to smooth out any irregularities in such areas as cuts, gouges or small holes as well as rough edges. These irregularities can affect the strength of the fence.

Step 5: Use a wire brush attachment to remove all chunks of rust from the brackets and posts. After this, use a power sander with a disc sander attachment to remove all flaky rust from the brackets and posts. You will most likely need to pry up or cut loose any bolts that hold the brackets in place, especially if they are rusted in place or frozen into place. The cutting or prying should be gentle and slow so as not to damage the aluminum.

Step 6: Brush aluminum paint onto all brackets. Use a good quality brush and clean water to make sure you don’t contaminate the area with dirt or oil by using bad technique.

Step 7: After the brackets are coated, paint all of the post caps/plates silver. You will have to cut them off bracket when you remove them. These come in two different lengths for this job, depending on how you want your fence to look.

Step 8: Once the aluminum is all smooth, brush paint onto all weld areas. This is necessary to prevent rusting.

Step 9: Paint the top rail and any other metal parts of the fence using a product specifically designed for this purpose. You can also use a metal stain or metal paint (such as Rustoleum’s “Enamel Metal Paint”) if you prefer to avoid white paint jobs.
Please note that a white top rail is not required for safety and that it only aesthetic value.

Step 10: Touch up any areas that require it. This should include small chips or scratches on the fence posts and brackets.
As a final note, don’t forget to spend some time looking around your property for other issues of corrosion. A good example comes from a friend who had several aluminum storm windows with rusted out frames and sills.

conclusion:

Repair aluminum fence in 1 hour is not difficult at all. Anybody can do a repair in 1 hour and it saves a lot of money from replacing fence. There are many types of fence like privacy and chain link fencing, metal fencing, invisible fencing . For metal type of fence you need to use metal paint or invisibility fences.
I was thinking to buy a new electric gate, but I decided to try the 1-hour fix method for aluminum fences.
