Hey Maya,
I sure do have a name, and excellent SEO, if you wanted to google me ;)
I understand what you’re saying here, but if you knew me, you’d laugh at the idea of me “not having a voice of her own.” I’m proud to say my voice and outspoken nature are my most prized attributes. While on the surface the article appears to be about me and my experiences, I think it’s truly a piece about Jake’s mindset before/after- a mindset that is shared by too many other men from every walk of life. It’s a story of chosen ignorance and the guilt that followed it. I hope it’s given other men some food for thought, and perhaps it will be a catalyst of change in their lives.
I also have to question; how many men would have chosen to read the article had it been titled “I thought discrimination against women in tech was bullshit, until it happened to me. -Belinda Hare.” I’d venture to say not many. Given that we’re asking men to open their eyes to what they’ve chosen not to see, it may touch more lives coming from someone that has walked in their shoes.
Thanks for the compliments on my interviews, you’ll definitely be seeing more of me on medium in the future.
