What if instead of plopping the kid in front of technology to teach them about Jesus, we equipped the parents instead. So for the example of your kid at breakfast, what if a text were sent to parents in the morning giving them a simple conversation starter or devotional thought for them to use with their kids? That’s still using technology while also equipping parents. And not replacing relationships or connection with technology.

The safety of kids using applications that allow conversations between users is still pretty risky and I know we do not allow our children use those features. And the jury is still out on the effects of extended technology usage, even if it is for educational purposes. And, how do we keep that from not becoming another voice/noise in the midst of everything technology is throwing at kids and families? I would like to think a personal approach is welcoming because it’s more rare these day — kind of like a handwritten letter vs a canned response email. And if parents treat church just like something else, or a club, then that’s on the parents and their decision in how they raise their children.

I could go on with a bunch more thoughts, but I’ll stop for now.
