I Supported Trump. Now, I Want Him Impeached!

This is not fake news or from the mainstream media. No. Its from an unapologetic Trump supporter. I believe I did a lot in my own small way to ensure the guy got elected. I remember staying up late at night watching his speeches, reading the commentary, and hailing insults on the people from the other side.

Seven months into his presidency, I believe Trump is the biggest disappointment of all. He has failed in very many ways.

First, Trump ran as an astute businessman; a negotiator. To date, he has proven how incompetent as a business he is. He has not reached to the other side. He thinks that his base will carry always be there for him in the coming election.

In his inauguration speech, Trump went against what America stands for. He did not reach out to the other side. While I hate Senator Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, it would have been beautiful to see the president reach out to them. He didn’t.

In his mind, he believes that the republicans love and support him. If he has not seen it already, some of the republicans like John Mccain and Lindsey Graham have never and will never support him.

So, this astute and experienced businessman cannot even get a single democrat. Obama did not run as a businessman but he was able to get some republicans support his agenda.

Second, this astute businessman cannot hire the best people. In his rallies, he talked about how he knows the best people. Today, he is surrounded by people without any experience. His son-in-law, Kushner is tasked with doing everything from negotiating peace in the Middle East to Veteran affairs. Every businessman with character will tell you that nepotism is not good.

Look at his inner circle. None of the people in the West Wing (apart from Steve Bannon) has an ideology. Most of these folks can’t tell him the truth. They want to worship and declare their love for him.

His clarion call was that he would drain the swamp. As an observer, the swamp has never been better. Look at his cabinet. It is made up of people like Wilbur Ross, Betsy Davos and Linda McMahon. These were his donors. His chief economic advisor is from Goldman Sachs. Why couldn’t he get a person from academia or other places?

Third, his use of Twitter is embarrassing. We loved his use of Twitter during the campaign. Not anymore. Of course, he is being himself but no one close to him, including Melania has told him that Twitter made him, and Twitter will destroy him. He has spent days complaining about Jeff Sessions, a man with a lot of support from his base.

The last I checked, Jeff recused himself months ago. Why is he still bitter? Doesn’t a good leader sit and talk with a ‘rogue’ employee? If they can’t agree, why then is he unable to fire him?

Let me make this clear, Trump’s presidency will not turn 1 if he fires Sessions or if the guy resigns. Sessions is not like Sean Spicer. He is loved in his state and has huge following among Trump’s base. He is also a former Republican senator with huge connections in the senate. In short, Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump and he will be the person to end his presidency.

Imagine the morale among Trump’s appointees who are seeing him embarrass one of them? Can these people say anything to oppose Trump? They can’t.

Third. Healthcare. This is a topic that Trump has the least knowledge on. During the campaigns, he talked about making medical insurance cheap. He talked about ensuring that everyone is insured. Instead of following through his promises, he has forgotten his promises. He always quotes Obama’s ‘if you want to keep your doctor’. The truth is democrats’ quotes on Trump will be worse. He said he would not touch medicare. They are reducing the coverage. He said he would ensure that everyone is covered. Millions of people will lose coverage.

In this debate, his interests is just to repeal and replace Obamacare. He doesn’t care about the impacts of what he signs into law. He has no idea of what is in the Obamacare. He just hates the name Obama in the ACA.

Way Forward: Trump Needs to Grow Up

First, Trump needs to summon Attorney General Sessions to white house and have a conversation with him. They need to iron out the issues. He is capable of talking to Sessions about Hillary’s mistakes and hiring a special counsel to investigate her crimes. They are many.

Second, he needs to get rid of Ivanka and Jared Kushner. They can remain as informal advisors to the president. In their place, he needs to get experienced people, probably from the academia. This will be a tough choice but it is necessary.

Third, he needs to talk to the democrats. Trump has a majority in the house and in senate. But the majority means nothing. The republicans in the two houses hate the guy. Soon, their support will be gone.

Fourth, he needs to tear down the republican’s healthcare bill. Then, he needs to select a team of democrats and a team of republicans. The team should start the healthcare debate from scratch. Hearings from the public, the medical community, insurance, academia, and other experts should be brought forward. The team should then take the bill — built through consensus — to the senate.

At the end, Trump will be credited for bringing bipartisanship back.

This bipartisan approach will also help him when it comes to the infrastructure and tax reform issues.

The Fact

If Trump can’t change and grow up, he needs to go. He can resign or the people in the Hill can impeach him. We need a mature president.
