Many women today can relate to the music written by country-pop singer, Carrie Underwood. With music titles like Before he Cheats, Good Girl, and All-American Girl, I think its safe to say that Carrie Underwood’s music is mainly intended for the female audience.
Carrie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She, along with her two older sisters were raised on her parents’ farm in Checotah, Oklahoma. Underwood enjoyed growing up on a farm as she stated, “I had a very happy childhood full of the wonderful simple things that children love to do.” She began singing at her church at the young age of three years old. As she got older, she began traveling to different states to perform in festival gigs, and also learned how to play the piano and the guitar. After she graduated from high school, she attended Noetheastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to major in broadcast journalism but decided to continue her music career.
Carrie Underwood’s career began with an American Idol audition. During her senior year at Northeastern State University, she auditioned for the show and ended up being the winner of the fourth season. She is known by most people as the most successful American Idol singer of all time. Due to her American Idol success, she became one of the most popular female performers in country music today. Some Hearts was Carrie Underwood’s first album which was released in 2005. According to biography.com, this album went triple platinum, making it the fastest selling female country album since Nielsen SoundScan in 1991. It is also stated that her first single, Inside Your Heaven made it to the top of the Billboard pop charts. Following that, Jesus, Take the Wheel put Underwood at the top of the country charts. Not only has she made it to the top of these charts, but she has also won many awards. The song Jesus, Take the Wheel won Underwood the Academy of Country Music Award for single of the year. She also won two Grammy Awards in 2006. One Grammy was for best new artist and the other was for best female country vocal performance.
Carrie Underwood was raised as a Christian. In 2008, Underwood began dating NHL player, Mike Fisher after they met at one of her concerts. The two became engaged in December of 2009 and ended up getting married on July 10, 2010.
