Though many different things can distract a driver, texting seems to be the one that has causes the most injuries and deaths per year. As stated by distracteddriveraccidents.com, over 78% of all distracted drivers are distracted due to texting. Studies show that texting and driving is 6 times more likely to cause an accident than driving while intoxicated. Any form of distracted driving not only puts your life at risk, but it also dangers other people around you. If your mind is not focused only on the road, then you could possibly run over someone you weren’t able to see. You could also cause a major accident involving yourself, and other drivers. Most of the distracted driving laws put in place mainly focus on the use of cell phones. According to ghsa.org, 14 U.S. states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have all completely banned the use of cell phones while driving. If we dont put an end to these distractions soon, the fatality rates of people behind the wheel is only going to get higher.
