Where Do You Find Freelance Copywriting Work in The UK?

Let me caveat this whole article with; this isn’t a holy grail type post, I’m not booked to the brim with work, plus I’ve only been knocking around in this game for a couple of years and I’m still struggling to find some kind of ‘stability’, if there ever is such a thing.

Also, I’m listing all the resources I regularly look at — my success to failure ratio is too miserable to even keep a record of.

I’m not listing Indeed, TotalJobs, LinkedIn, etc because you should know about them. If you don’t, God speed.

I do most of my searching on a laptop, whilst making funny faces.

So, with that out the way, let’s get stuck in.

Newsletters.

  1. Freelance Opportunities by Kaitlyn ArfordUS based but plenty of UK/Worldwide opportunities. A paid newsletter but only $3 a month, well worth it. Follow on LinkedIn too.
  2. Freelance Framework — a daily newsletter by Chris Bibey with a handful of jobs nicely organised by country.
  3. Write At Home by Alasdair Lane — UK based, free but with a paid option.
  4. Freelance Writing Jobs by Sian Meades-Williams — UK based, free sign up although there is a paid option.
  5. Kat Boogaard — US based freelancer sending out her own newsletter with a few jobs at the bottom. Mainly US, but some UK/Worldwide ones.
  6. TWJN by Akhil Chauhan — UK based but plenty of freelance writing jobs from all over. Paid option for advanced notice and more jobs.

Job Search Websites.

  1. Dynamite Jobs — US based but loads of remote based jobs. I’ve set up a job alert here.
  2. The Dots — UK based, alround creative industry website with a good job section. I’ve set up a job alert here.
  3. YunoJuno — UK based collective of freelancers where companies place briefs and freelancers apply. You need to apply to join. I check their Slack regularly.
  4. IfYouCouldJobs — UK based with a bunch of tech and media type jobs.
  5. Remote Weekly — US based aggregator with global work too.
  6. Creative Pool — Another UK based creative industries site with plenty of jobs. I’ve set up a job alert here.
  7. Media Beans — UK based media jobs.
  8. Work In Startups — UK based jobs in startups with remote, part-time, freelance options. Should start a newsletter or have job alerts because I forgot all about this one!
  9. WellFound — US based but worldwide jobs from startups and tech companies offering remote opportunities.
  10. Remote Jobs Ninja —mainly US jobs but they’ve got other countries covered too, well worth adding to your daily grind of job hunting.

LinkedIn Accounts.

  1. Freelance Flow by Brianna Graham— US based but loads of writing jobs and has a paid option for $10 per month.

Let me know of any other resources!

Let’s share the wealth.

This is only one side of the job hunting saga.

  • Contact recruitment agencies and getting on their lists as they sometimes have freelance, contract and part-time opportunities.
  • Search LinkedIn posts for ‘copywriter required’, ‘writer needed’, etc.
  • Cold contact people — not had much success with this, but it is a thing.
  • In-person Networking — not had any success with this, but not as scary as you might think.

And one tip for all the job sites out there — enable job alerts! I don’t always check your sites, I can miss your tweets, but I always check my emails.

Wotcha!
