What Is PSIM?
PSIM is a security management system targeting physical security. Here we look at some of the features of PSIM and why you might use it.
PSIM, or Physical Security Information Management, is the latest feature of a number of integrated security systems and has been rolled out over the last six months. Integrated security systems are used by a large number of businesses, celebrities, and prisons in order to ensure the security of either buildings, people or prisoners. There are, of course, many more types of people who use integrated security systems, but these types give testament to the standards that these systems have reached in recent years.
A few decades ago, security would consist of little more than security guards and low quality CCTV cameras. Nowadays, all security devices can be integrated. This means that as soon as a breach of security is detected, whether that be by motion sensors or perimeter intruder detection, CCTv cameras will automatically focus on the scene where the potential breach occurred, alarms will notify those in charge of security of the breach and inform them of a pinpointed location. The integration of security systems means that it has become easier to catch criminals, and can help reduce the time spent attempting to catch them.
So what exactly is PSIM? In essence, PSIM has given much more power to the designated security team by giving access from multiple computers.
PSIM is the latest feature of these integrated security systems. In the world of technology, cloud servers have become the latest “big thing” as it were. A few years ago, computer users relied on their hard drives as the sole source of storage. This meant that if your computer broke or if the hard drive was damaged, you would lose all of your data. This was particularly problematic for businesses. Nowadays, it is easy to store data wirelessly in what is known as a cloud. This means that it can be accessed by any PC at any time and in any place, as long as they have permission.
PSIM operates in a similar way, albeit on a somewhat simpler scale. Whereas a few years ago, security would be controlled from one computer or one room, PSIM means that security software can be accessed and controlled from a number of PCs. Business owners or whoever can thus be safe in the knowledge that if one PC fails or crashes, the security can be controlled from another workstation. This is a hugely important feature. Similarly, security can then be controlled from anywhere in the building, meaning that security staff numbers can potentially be reduced.
Alternatively, the modular format of PSIM means that security can be spread across a number of different computers.Individual computer users can be allocated control of certain security features, meaning a less cluttered desktop for each member of the security team. This is particularly important on high secure units such as prisons where the team must be alert at all times.
PSIM is a simple but huge breakthrough in integrated security systems, and means that security teams have much more control over the site. If you are a criminal then beware; PSIM is coming to get you!
